OIL LEVEL - I put this topic in here because it is so important and so frequently asked
dry sump system means that most of the oil is
pumped up out of the sump into the tank in the offside rear wing so that the
big ends are not wasting power splashing through the oil each time round the
bottom of the engine. When the engine revs build up, the oil is pumped round
the engine, and the level in the tank (and on the gauge) is almost empty. When
you slow or stop, the oil returns to the tank and the gauge should read 2/3
to almost full. Hence - read the gauge when the engine is hot (should
hear the oil cooler fan cut in inside the front offside wing) and running with
the car on level ground. Do not overfill (it
holds 11.5 litres altogether). Too much oil can stop the engine, effectively
seized up. Do screw the filler cap down tightly - Gary B, Melvin S, Ken C
The dipstick which seems to be about a mile long is very iffy and only any use
when your dash board guage doesn`t work. If the gauge doesn`t work (sometimes
they just stick and need a tap) it should be a priority on your list of jobs
to be done PDQ. Regards Gary B alias Sideways Syd
