SLOPPY GEAR CHANGE
I too had a sloppy gear change. So sloppy in fact that it dis-connected from
the lever!! - in neutral of course just to maximise the aggravation value!
In my case the rod that goes through the bottom of the gear leaver had worn
allowing it to flex in the sleeve and eventually push the circlip off. The next
step of course was for the rod to fall out of the hole as I did a rapid downshift
to second and the world to slow down and eventually stop around me!
Have a look at the rod where it goes through the bottom of the gear leaver (release
the bottom of the gear leaver gaiter for access) - it should be parallel sided,
if it is not think about a replacement, I can't recommend anywhere as my friendly
local mechanic turned a new one on his lathe for me!!
From there check out the bushes one by one back to the gearbox but access to
the upper linkages on the gearbox is 'challenging' with an inspection pit -
without one?? .....................well let me know!!! All the best Dave G
