944 Tech. Tip 19 - Cam Chain and Slipper

The dealer has told him that unless it rattles there is not a problem - which I have said is b#*locks. On my S2 at 65k miles I had the whole Tensioner replaced and chain etc - the bill coming to approx £550 from RLR. Obviously just replacing the slipper + chain costs alot less any ideas how much? Having just recently visited Hartech and queried the Cam chain and slipper, they reckoned around £120 to replace. Richard T - 23rd March, 2001

The plastic 'slipper' is about £2+VAT. It isn't itemised on the 944 parts list microfiche, but it is on the 928 S4 sheet (part #. 928.105.509.01) . Only the upper slipper is available seperately, the lower one has to be changed with the tensioner assembly. I paid about £20 for the cam chain (Porscheshop). (I'm having mine done this weekend, along with cam chain, front seals, belts, head gasket set and oil cooler seals, and valve guides, if they need doing.) Cheers, Rob H - 23rd March, 2001
