964 Door Rattles

No, 911 doors shouldn't rattle. If they do, it can be as a result of accident damage, but the problem is easy enough to fix. The interior panel comes off nicely, giving OK access to the inside of the door. Once in there have a feel around and give it the door a good shake while listening. Make sure to re-attach the polythene sheet to the inside of the door, as I am told this helps keep water out. You need a 12 pointed star key to adjust the catch on the door post. I bought one for £2.00 for my 3.2 carrera a few years ago, and I think it fits the 964 too. Good value, as the catches do seem to move slightly over time, resulting in a poor fitting door. It must be way out of alignment to rattle though, as the rubber door seal would prevent this I would think. Strange Best wishes Mark G - 26th June, 2001

I used to have a 911 3.2 with a rattling door. The garage I use (Strasse in Leeds) took it apart and found something loose inside which cured it for a while, until I noticed a different rattle from the door (but not as bad). This time they said it was a common problem and was caused by the inside door handle. Each time I heard the rattle if I pushed the handle into its closed position then it stopped (it was caused by the handle not going fully back into position after use). I didn't ever bother getting this fixed as I was shortly to trade it in for my current 964. I don't know if either of these will be the cause of your rattle, but it's somewhere to start looking.
