944 Turbo Problems
24th September, 2001 - I not really the best person to help you with this as I have only owned the car about 9 months. I am sure there were no warning signs that I missed. The car had been into Northway for a change of belts some 1000 miles previously and I asked them to give the car a thorough check over. There was no adverse reaction. In fact the first signs I had was returning from a PCGB regional meeting when excessive smoking started. Ray Northways initial reaction was that he was not sure it was the turbo as failures in his experience are few and far between. The turbo itself didn't destroy itself but there was a lot of endfloat on the spindle when it was taken apart. I dont know what caused it. the only contributary factor I can think of was that the previous owner did very few miles in the 6 months prior to selling it due to ill health. >From the survey of owners I can see little point in having a rebuild unless you have some evidence of a problem.
