944 Electric Window Problems

Nick Here is some information from previous posts at the time I had a window failure. As you will see the gearbox was the cause of my problem. However, before you go to the fairly time-consuming job of taking it all apart, you might want to check electrical connections, which proved to be the problem in Phil Siddorn's case.

Ian Eddie Following your advice I tried to remove the motor from the gearbox, but no joy, they just wouldn't separate. So I had to take the entire mechanism out of the door. It turned out that that was going to be necessary anyway because the problem was the gearbox, which had more or less seized. Freed everything up, put lots of grease everywhere, put it all back together again (that sounds a lot easier than it actually was!) and it's now working well. It was quite fiddly and took a few hours, but what else are bank holiday weekends for?! Thanks for your 'tuppence worth' and to Bert for his offer. Regards Ian From: "Eddie Buckley"

Ian ,since no one else has replied here's my tuppence worth... Can you be sure the motor is continuing to run when the window stops? can you hear it? The window in my car stopped all together. I found that by stripping out the trim etc I could get access to the motor and split it from the gearbox while leaving the gearbox in situ. You can do this by removing, I think two Allen ? screws from the outer end of the motor end bell, The commutator was covered in a mixture of copper dust and grease that had bypassed the rubber seal. I cleaned out the motor with contact cleaner etc, added a little grease to what limited access I could see in the gearbox end and put it back together. had no trouble since and that was a year ago.Take time to put all the internal trim /sound deadening back carefully as mine developed a creak which required a partial strip down. If its the gears then that is a much more awkward job I would guess

The driver's side window of my 1990 Turbo has developed a fault - it goes down about an inch then stops and refuses to go any further. It will close from there but only very slowly. I have the door panel off but it's difficult to see how the system works let alone spot any problems and the workshop manual seems to have no information about the window mechanism. The motor appears to be working. Does anyone have any experience of such a problem? Any advice much appreciated. > > Ian

Hi all, Just discovered that my drivers door window has stopped working. As usual, I know there have been postings about this in the not distant past, but I haven't saved any of them. The motor seems to be trying, as I can push the window down a bit with the button pressed and the window then winds up OK. Is this just a matter of pulling off the door trim and having a look ? Thanks for any suggestions NickB
